The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the vast majority of eastern Idaho starting on Friday through Monday.
Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid 40s to near 50 in many areas where significant snow is still on the ground. Rapid snow melt is possible, which could create low land flooding, water over roads and flooding near homes.
The following cities are under the flood watch: Burley, Rupert, Heyburn, St. Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs, Victor, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Malad City, Oakley, Rockland, Henry, Soda Springs, Downey, Lava Hot Springs, Preston, Montpelier, Hailey, Ketchum, Bellevue, Arco, Challis, and Mackay.

IDAHO FALLS — High winds and snowfall will continue for Wednesday, March 8.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm advisory for the following counties: Lemhi, Clark, Fremont, Teton and eastern Madison.
The advisory is in effect until Friday afternoon with heavy and blowing snow predicted throughout the region. Between 4 to 12 inches of snow is predicted through Friday in areas above 6,000 feet. Between 1 to 3 inches of snow is predicted in the valleys.
High winds combined with the snowfall will create dangerous driving conditions.
Southern Montana and western Wyoming are under the same advisory.
A high wind advisory has also been issued for the following counties: Madison, Jefferson, Butte, Bonneville, Bingham, Bannock and Power. Strong southwesterly winds will develop Wednesday afternoon with average speeds of 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. The advisory is in effect until 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Weather officials say to expect strong cross winds along U.S. Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 26 from Blackfoot to Idaho Falls, and along Interstate 86.
No road closures are being reported as of 8 a.m. Wednesday.
The Idaho Transportation Department reports difficult driving conditions on the following highways due to blowing or packed snow, icy patches and/or high winds:
- U.S. Highway 20 between Island Park and the Montana State Line
- Idaho Highway 33 between Rexburg and Driggs
- U.S. Highway 26 between Idaho Falls and Alpine, Wyoming
- Idaho Highway 34 between Soda Springs and the Wyoming State Line
- Idaho Highway 36 between Preston and Paris
- U.S. Highway 89 between Montpelier and the Wyoming State Line
- U.S. Highway 26 between Atomic City and Blackfoot
- U.S. 93 between Salmon and the Montana State Line

Idaho Falls and Rexburg
It’ll be mostly cloudy Wednesday with a chance of snow and rain throughout the day. Highs of 37 to 44 degrees are expected with southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph. There is a 50 percent chance of rain or snow during the night with lows of 30 to 37 degrees and continued high winds.
Pocatello
The Pocatello area will be mostly cloudy Wednesday with a chance of rain and snow in the morning. Temperatures will be the highest they’ve reached this week with highs of 39 to 48 degrees. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected during the day, which will decrease at night to 15 to 25 mph. There is a 50 percent chance of rain during the night with lows of 32 to 39 degrees.
St. Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs, and Victor
The Upper Valley and Teton Valley will see areas of blowing snow in the morning. About 1 to 3 inches of snow is predicted to fall throughout the day. Highs will be between 36 to 43 degrees. There is a chance for more snow or rain during the evening with temperature lows of 28 to 35 degrees.
Arco, Challis, and Mackay
It’ll be partly sunny Wednesday with a slight chance of snow in the morning and afternoon. Highs of 37 to 44 degrees are expected. At night clouds will roll in bringing a greater chance for snow and rain in the evening. Up to 2 inches of snow could fall in the region. Temperatures will drop to between 25 to 34 degrees during the night.
Henry, Soda Springs, Downey, and Lava Hot Springs
Snow is likely throughout Wednesday with 1 to 3 inches predicted. Temperatures will reach between 35 to 44 degrees during the day. At night the snow will continue with an additional accumulation of 2 to 3 inches. Lows of 29 to 36 degrees are expected.
