Panda Express to break ground soon
Published at | Updated atREXBURG — The long awaited Panda Express will soon break ground– but contractors haven’t disclosed exactly when.
A Rexburg city official said the permit for the Asian-food restaurant was issued on March 27.
“I’ve spoken with the contractor, and he was anxious to get started, but I don’t have a start date,” said a Rexburg city official who declined to be named. “I think it’s an indicator that Rexburg is starting to gain attention from larger chains, but only time will tell what that means for us.”
The building will be 2,600 square feet on a parcel that is a little over an acre, the city official confirmed. The building will be built on a pad similar to the Walmart fuel station, and will be west of Walmart on Second East.
Panda Express announced it was coming to Rexburg last year. A local Panda Express manager told EastIdahoNews.com in September that it could be opening at the end of 2016 or early 2017.
Now the Panda Express area coach of operations said the restaurant should be open within several months.
“It’s coming this summer,” Robert Esparza told EastIdahoNews.com.
The reasons for the delay were not disclosed.
