Logos released for new Thunder Ridge High School

AMMON — Four official logos were released for the new high school in Bonneville Joint School District 93 on Tuesday.
Thunder Ridge High School will open in 2018 with a logo depicting a Titan from Greek mythology wielding a thunderbolt.
Thunder Ridge Principal Doug McLaren and two District 93 administrators approved the logos. The designs were then presented to the D93 school board and then underwent a final approval last week.
“We all kind of looked through to see which ones looked good on uniforms, looked good on walls and gym floors,” McLaren said.
McLaren said students from Bonneville and Hillcrest high schools were instrumental in the selection.
Current seventh- through 10th-grade students received a survey May 26 so they could weigh in on the selection. Surveys also went out to parents and the public via Facebook.
“They’ll be the students out at Thunder Ridge when it opens, and we had about 1,000 responses,” McLaren said.
Students from a design communication course at Hillcrest crafted several logos. Unfortunately, McLaren said, they didn’t make it to the final selection. The images were created by a design company instead.
Superintendent Charles Shackett is pleased with the new designs.
“I think it looks fantastic and appreciate Principal McLaren going through the process of coming to that determination,” Shackett said.
McLaren said he’s excited to be moving forward on the progress for Thunder Ridge and to start branding.
“We wanted to get it out to the builders so that we could get things moving in the building and for the gym floor,” McLaren said. “We’re excited that we can take this step and start to get to some marketing and start to build the excitement among the students for what the school is going to be about.”
