Idaho Falls man dies in Oregon crash

DIAMOND LAKE, Oregon — On June 30, 2017, the Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle head-on fatal motor vehicle collision on SR 230 near Milepost 22, near Diamond Lake.
Preliminary investigation revealed that white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a utility trailer, driven by Mark Andrew Root, age 49, of Eagle Point, was traveling eastbound on SR 230 near milepost 22, when for an unknown reason the Chevrolet drifted into the westbound lanes of travel. The Chevrolet collided with a white 2006 Kia Amanti, driven by William Hunter Houff, age 56, and passenger Lisa Barnett Carr, age 54, of Idaho Falls.
William Houff suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene after lifesaving measured were performed by EMS. Root was transported by air ambulance to Bend Hospital with serious injuries. Carr was transported by air ambulance to River Bend Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. Houff was later transported to Wilson Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg.
Safety restraints were not utilized, and it is believed that intoxicants are not a contributing factor.
