Wind advisory issued; fall storm to bring snow to parts of eastern Idaho

IDAHO FALLS — The National Weather Service issued a strong wind advisory for most of the Upper Snake River Plain on Wednesday.
The following communities will see winds of between 25 to 35 mph with gusts around 45 mph: St. Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs, Victor, Idaho Falls, Rexburg and Pocatello.
The wind advisory is in effect until 7 p.m., when winds will begin to decline, according the NWS weather report.
Locations most affected by the wind are Interstate 15 from Pocatello to the Montana border and across the Arco Desert.
Additionally, NWS is reporting a fall storm system will dump storm on areas of higher elevation in eastern Idaho starting Wednesday through Friday. Significant snow accumulation will be limited to areas above 6,000 feet where between 4 to 7 inches of snow is possible.
The following communities are forecast to receive at least some snow this week: St. Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs, Victor, Henry, Soda Springs, Downey, Lava Hot Springs, Stanley, Clayton, Hailey, Ketchum, Bellevue, Arco, Challis and Mackay.
A winter weather advisory also has been issued in western Wyoming and northern Utah.
As a result roadways in these areas may be slick for the next couple days — especially in mountain passes. Officials urge caution on the road and encourage campers or outdoor enthusiasts to prepare for winter conditions.
