Newsmakers: He nearly died of a rare disease. Now Brett Botelho hopes to become a Paralympic athlete.

In this edition of East Idaho Newsmakers, Nate Eaton speaks with Brett Botelho.

Botelho has written a book about his life’s journey focusing on when he was diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropayhy (CIDP) and the effects of the condition. Botelho has survived countless surgeries and the amputation of one of his legs.

Despite his medical challenges, Botelho is an avid snowboarder and hopes to compete in the 2020 Paralympic games.

He has spoken in front of the United States Congress and at various churches and schools.

Botelho is the author of Standing My Own Ground and can be found on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
