Devils Hole Fire now 80 percent contained; size downgraded

HAMER — Federal firefighters made significant headway containing the Devils Hole Fire on Wednesday night.
The fire is now 80 percent contained, Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Kelsey Griffee said. Additionally, the size of the fire has been downgraded from previous estimates given on Wednesday. After an aerial survey, BLM says the total burned acreage is 2,338 opposed to the 5,000 acres that was reported yesterday.

The fire is expected to be fully contained at around 10 p.m. Thursday.
The wildfire only burned grass and brush on BLM and state land. No structures were damaged.
Emergency crews responding to the fire included BLM, U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The Devils Hole Fire was started by a lightning strike during a mid-afternoon storm Wednesday.
