Newsmakers: Capt. Randy Lewis, the “Segway cop,” reflects on his 44 years of police service

Lewis has been an officer with the department for 44 years – one of the longest serving officers in Idaho history. He recently announced that he is retiring at the end of the month.
When Lewis joined the department, there were less than 10 officers on the staff. Now there are nearly 50. A lot has changed over the decades and Lewis has seen a variety of crimes, cases and criminals.
Lewis became a viral sensation a few years ago when video of him trying to ride a Segway went viral after being posted on EastIdahoNews.com. It has been seen millions of times around the world and people still ask the captain about it.
