Take a look inside the remodeled Idaho Falls Civic Center

IDAHO FALLS — Renovations aren’t quite done, but the show must go on. Check out how the Idaho Falls Civic Center for the Performing Arts looks now.

The much-needed renovations to the Civic Center are mostly done – new paint, railings, carpeting, sound dampening and other upgrades. The new seating will go in July 2019 as will a new mechanical orchestra pit.

“At this point, we have temporary seating,” Idaho Falls Civic Center Chairman Arthur Kull said.

During a previous tour of the Civic Center Idaho Falls, General Services administrator Chandra Witt explained the fabric for the new seating was difficult to find for 1,800 seats.

“Not only is it pretty and it goes with the color scheme but, in their research, it showed that this particular fabric holds up,” City of Idaho Falls Spokesperson Bud Cranor said.

Cranor said along with the new mechanical orchestra pit, the Civic Center will also get an orchestra shell designed to help with acoustics.

All of the new renovations are part of phase one of the Civic Center remodel.

“Phase two and three, at this point, depend on (Idaho Falls High School) deciding whether to stay here or not,” Kull said. “That will allow us to develop some options on how to renovate the back of the house and also the front of the house.”

He explained he would like to convert parts of the high school into rehearsal spaces and expand the lobby. He said, for now, that all depends on time and money.

“It was a wonderful experience because we had such a great team that went forward and plowed new ground,” Kull said about the renovation process.
