UPDATE: Fremont School District added to growing list of schools closed due to illness

UPDATE:

All schools in Fremont School District 215 are closed Friday due to ongoing illness in the district. Staff members who normally work on Friday will be at their respective buildings disinfecting all surfaces which may host contagions.

School resumes on Monday.

ORIGINAL STORY:

DRIGGS — Two high schools in Teton County, one in Fremont County and an Ammon charter school are joining the ever-growing list of local schools closing due to high numbers of sick students.

Teton High School and Basin High School in Teton School District 401 will close Friday.

District spokeswoman Jeanne Anderson said about 20 percent of students at both schools are out sick with the flu, along with a significant number of teachers.

Earlier this week, Tetonia Elementary School, which is also in the district, closed for the same reason.

All District 401 schools are scheduled to reopen Monday.

White Pine Charter School in Ammon is also closing Friday due to a large number of absences. Custodial crews will be cleaning and sanitizing the building while students are away, according to a news release. School will resume Monday.

These are not the only school closures in eastern Idaho. Adams Elementary in Rexburg was closed Tuesday and Wednesday and reopened Thursday. Burton Elementary School, also in Rexburg, closed Thursday and Friday and will resume Monday.

Hope Lutheran School and American Heritage Charter School in Idaho Falls are also closed and will resume Monday.

Medical professionals and school administrators are encouraging parents to keep children who are experiencing cold and flu-like symptoms at home.
