Idaho will require ‘Star Card’ to pass security in federal buildings or airports in 2020

IDAHO FALLS — If you are planning on flying or entering an Idaho federal facility, you might want to consider getting a “Star Card”.
Beginning Oct. 1, 2020, the state of Idaho will require a Star Card, U.S. Passport or military identification to pass through airport security or enter a federally funded building, such as a courthouse or military base.
The Star Card is a special issued driver’s license or identification card issued through the Department of Motor Vehicles with a star in the upper right-hand corner. The card has been developed due to the REAL ID security standards passed by Congress in 2005.
“The last thing I want is for a family or business traveler to miss a vacation or an important work trip because they didn’t get their Star Cards,” said Governor Brad Little in a news release. As of today, five percent of Idahoans have applied.
In an effort to minimize long lines at the DMV in 2020, the Idaho Transportation Department is insisting Idahoans start the process sooner rather than later and go to their local DMV.
