Man facing rape of a minor and multiple lewd conduct charges
Published at | Updated atREXBURG — A man is facing charges of rape where the victim is under 16 years old and four felony charges of lewd conduct with a minor.
Connor Hammond, 21, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl. Hammond is also suspected of having engaged in lewd conduct with the victim throughout January and February.
Hammond, a student at Brigham Young University-Idaho, could face up to life in prison for each count.
Details surround Hammond’s arrest are sparse. In an unusual move, the Madison County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office requested the judge seal the affidavit of probable cause to protect the victim’s identity.
“At some point, it will all come out. But, at first, we feel it’s necessary to protect that victim,” Madison County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Rob Wood told EastIdahoNews.com.
Hammond’s bond is set at $200,000.
