Baby bear cubs make a visit to EastIdahoNews.com
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — Bear cubs from Yellowstone Bear World stopped into the EastIdahoNews.com studio to visit the team Thursday.
And if you want to see the bear cubs you’ll have an opportunity soon.
“It’s a great time of year for us,” Yellowstone Bear World President Courtney Ferguson says.
This weekend the black bear cubs will be featured at Cabela’s during a photo-op event. The public is invited to come out and take pictures with the cubs for $20 per group on Saturday and Sunday. Funds will go toward animal welfare and educational programs at Yellowstone Bear World.
“It’s the time of year that we can take these little black bear cubs and share this experience with the community so we’re really excited for that,” Ferguson says.
Ferguson says this year they’re taking care of 11 cubs, last year they had nine. He says there are six girls and five boys. The bears spend at least six weeks with the mother and then are bottle-fed a specialized milk replacer.
“They’ll be on bottles throughout their first real summer season and then we’ll start introducing solid foods later in the year — in July and August,” Ferguson says.
Yellowstone Bear World is in its 21st year and will be opening on the April 20th Easter weekend. They’ll have an Easter egg hunt going on, which is a part of their Cub Palooza event.
“We got our hands full and lots of love going on,” Ferguson says.
The Cabela’s event will be on March 9 at 10 a.m. and March 10 at 11 a.m. at 3693 South 25th East, Ammon.
