Group hosting second Trump train Monday following weekend event

IDAHO FALLS — The Trump train will be back in Idaho Falls Monday evening and organizers want you to take notice.
Organizer Tom Sathre tells EastIdahoNews.com a group of Trump supporters in Rigby and Idaho Falls will be meeting at Civitan Park at 5:15 p.m.
“We’d love to have people honk,” Sathre says. “Anything to show support is definitely welcome.”
The route will begin on Memorial Drive and take between 30 and 45 minutes to complete.
The group will take the roundabout on Memorial and head towards Yellowstone Highway. They’ll follow Yellowstone all the way to Sunnyside Road, turn left on Hitt Road and then head towards the roundabout on Lincoln Road by Costco, before heading back to Civitan Park.
About 350 vehicles participated in a similar event on Saturday. It started in Rigby and ended up in downtown Idaho Falls as it circled its way throughout the city.
“It really blew us away. We were expecting 100 cars at the most, so we were really surprised at how many people showed up,” Sathre says. “It wasn’t very well thought out on my end. We got split up pretty good because of all the traffic lights. There was a bunch of little groups of people driving around.”
Sathre is hoping this one is a little more organized and that the group can stay together.
Sathre says he’s always been patriotic and was inspired to organize a Trump train after seeing lots of them in cities across the country. He started putting the wheels in motion after seeing a big one in Tremonton, Utah during a trip there with his wife about two weeks ago.
“I got a hold of one of my buddies and asked him what he thought, and he said, ‘Yeah, I think we could put something together,'” says Sathre.
He hosted a small one with about eight vehicles last week and the interest has continued to grow.
Though it’s called a Trump train, Sathre says it’s not really about Trump.
“He just happens to be the president that’s in office at this point, but it’s really about (the fact) that we’re proud to be Americans and we want to keep America (strong),” he says.
There’s no way to tell how big Monday’s train will be, but anyone who wants to show up is welcome to participate.
“We’re grateful to everyone coming out and supporting us. Hopefully, we’ll get people excited about politics and voting, supporting their country and doing what they can to keep it a great place,” Sathre says.
