Half-naked man allegedly attacked by woman with bear spray
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — Deputies arrested an Idaho Falls woman for allegedly attacking a man with bear spray early Tuesday morning.
Crystal Renay Allery, 48, was charged with felony domestic battery inflicting traumatic injury for her role in the incident, according to charging documents obtained by EastIdahoNews.com.
The incident occurred in the yard of a local trucking company around 3 a.m. Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies were called after a man reported to dispatchers that a woman was throwing rocks at his vehicle.
When deputies arrived, they found a different man standing outside, half-naked in 19-degree weather without shoes screaming in pain. According to the probable cause affidavit, the man told investigators Allery had just sprayed him in the face with a can of bear spray while he lay in the sleeper compartment of her semi-truck.
The man alleged Allery was drunk and sprayed him when he refused to let her drive. As his head and shoulders were covered in bear spray, first responders took him to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Allery was found at a nearby truck stop where deputies asked for her side of the story. She claimed the victim had strangled her, so she sprayed him with the bear spray in self-defense. Deputies write in the probable cause they did not see any signs of injury to her that would support her claim.
Deputies arrested and booked Allery into the Bonneville County Jail, where she remains held on $10,000 bail.
Although Allery is accused of a crime, it does not necessarily mean she committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
If convicted of felony domestic battery, Allery could be ordered to spend up to 10 years in prison and/or pay a $10,000 fine.
