IDAHO FALLS — Lots of events in eastern Idaho are planned this weekend to celebrate Memorial Day and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives during active duty.
Here is a list of events to attend:
Idaho Falls
- The Idaho Falls 10th Annual Field of Honor will be held at Russ Freeman Park from Saturday, May 28, at 7 a.m., to Monday, May 30 at 10 p.m. One thousand American flags will be posted by volunteers to honor those serving in the military, veterans, and first responders.
Pocatello
- The Bannock County Veterans Memorial Association is holding a Memorial Day Ceremony and free luncheon on Monday, May 30. The ceremony will aim to honor those who have lost while in the service. The event will be held at 300 N. Johnson Avenue, and begins at 11 a.m. with a ceremony, followed by lunch provided and donated by veterans service organizations in southeast Idaho.
- The friends of the Brady Chapel and the Pocatello Historic Preservation Commission will be celebrating 100 years since The Brady Chapel’s dedication. The event will include an open house and presentation at the Chapel, located in Mountain View Cemetery on Monday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- The Idaho Field of Heroes Memorial will return to Pocatello this year, marking its 18th year in a row. The event will be held at Century High School’s soccer fields from Friday, May 27, until Memorial Day, May 30. The event will kick off with a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, May 27. The field will then be open to the public 24 hours a day until the closing ceremony at 6 p.m. Monday, May 30.
Rexburg
- The Madison Fire Department Pipe Brigade will honor those that died in the service by playing at the Madison County cemeteries on Monday, May 30. The event will begin at 9 a.m.
Blackfoot
- Blackfoot Mayor Marc Carroll will speak at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 30 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. The event was organized in connection with the Blackfoot American Legion/VFW and Daughters of the American Revolution, flags will be placed at each gravesite and wreaths will be presented for fallen soldiers and each branch of military.
Rigby
- The 2022 Memorial Day Murph is a CrossFit “hero workout” that consists of a 1-mile run, followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and finished with another 1-mile run. This event will be held in Rigby, at the Jefferson County Lake beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 30.
Ririe
- The Ririe Shelton Cemetery will hold its annual Memorial Day program at 11 a.m. on May 30. The public is asked to bring their own lawn chairs to the event.
