DEQ issues boil advisory for subdivision in Island Park

ISLAND PARK — The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has issued a boil water advisory for the Aspen Ridge Subdivision in Island Park, according to a news release from the Department.
The DEQ became aware of a total loss of pressure event in the Aspen Ridge Subdivision on April 5, said the release.
The loss of pressure was due to a problem with the well pump, broken main lines and potential other causes, according to the boil water advisory.
“There is at least one broken main line that must be repaired by (Island Park Water Company) no later than June 30, 2023,” the advisory notes.
A drop or loss of water pressure can create conditions that allow contamination to enter the distribution system through, the boil water advisory states.
“As a result, there is an increased chance the drinking water may contain disease‐causing organisms.”
Currently, there is no known contamination, but water also hasn’t been deemed safe for consumption.
The Island Park Water Company still needs to collect water samples, according to the news release, and the system may need to be disinfected.
Until pressure has been fully restored and the water determined safe to drink, residents in the Aspen Ridge Subdivision are encouraged to boil their water for at least one minute before consuming.
Water has been restored to several homes in the subdivision, but it hasn’t been fully restored throughout the distribution.
