RIRIE – Firefighters are investigating the cause of a garage fire in Ririe Tuesday night.

The blaze started a little after 10 p.m. at 260 East Ririe Highway, according to a news release from Central Fire District in Jefferson County.

No one was in the house when firefighters arrived. An unattached cinder block shop and garage was fully engulfed in flames and mostly collapsed, officials say.

Firefighters immediately got to work to put out the fire, and keep it from spreading to the house and trees that were close by. The fire is out now, despite high winds and cold temperatures, which are always inconvenient and make firefighting challenging.

Crews were still on scene, as of a little after midnight Wednesday. No one was injured.

“Cause of the fire is not known at this time and will be investigated in the morning. The value of the shop is estimated at $100,000. The shop was a 2-car garage approximately 30-feet by 40-feet,” Fire Chief Carl Anderson says in a news release.
