Darrell Blaine Sharp

Darrell Blaine Sharp passed peacefully into his Heavenly Father’s arms on May 2, 2023 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He left behind a legacy of charity and love for his loved ones to follow.

Blaine was born December 15, 1944 to Earl Pilkington Sharp and Edith Mary Briggs. He was welcomed into the world by 4 brothers and 1 ecstatic older sister.

He was a precocious child that took life and its adventures by storm. He grew up in the Lyman, Idaho area, and he attended school in the Madison School District until he was a senior when he was invited to attend Sugar Salem High School. This invitation just happened to be from Madison High School. It was here that he met his first wife, Mary Gayle Smith. From this union they welcomed Merrill LeGrande. They later divorced.

During this time Blaine also met the love of his life, Janice Wasden. They fell in love and never looked back. They married in 1965, and later welcomed their first daughter, Jalyn. She made her appearance 8 weeks early. We can only assume that she knew her time with her mom and dad would be short, so she decided to make her arrival as early as she could. They made it to the hospital 20 minutes before Jalyn was born. Blaine and Janice lived in Pocatello during this time.

Blaine proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Ord, California starting in 1963, and later reported to Fort Lewis, Washington.

Blake made his appearance in Blaine and Janice’s life in 1967. Jalyn doted on Blake, making sure that her mom was taking care of him properly.

In September of 1967, Blaine and Janice were in a car accident where they lost their sweet, darling little girl. This of course devastated them, but Blaine and Janice were sealed for all time and eternity on Jalyn’s birthday on September 20, 1968.

After the tragedy of losing Jalyn they moved to Sugar City for two years. Janel made her grand entrance while they lived there. They later moved to St. Anthony. Shelby, Nakia, and KaReena joined the brood after this move, and rounded out the Sharp family.

Blaine always worked so hard to provide for his family. Throughout the years, he worked as a police officer, mechanic, jailer, and locksmith. Many across the Snake River valley were rescued by Blaine after locking their keys in their cars. Everyone loved the help, but they loved the smile and chat with Blaine even more.

Blaine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in the Primary, Sunday School, and as a faithful ministering brother. To the day that he passed away, he asserted that the best calling in the church was in the nursery. He loved the idea of snack time included in his calling.

Blaine spent much of his time supporting his kids and grandkids. They truly were the heart and joy of his life. He made it to every game, graduation, song performance, and activity that his grandkids were involved with. His family adores him and is heartbroken at this loss.

He is survived by his eternal companion and best friend Janice, children, Merrill (Linda) Sharp of Rexburg, Blake (Cindy) Sharp of Rexburg, Janel (Ray) Young of Sugar City, Shelby (Caitie) Sharp of Stansbury Park, Utah, Nakia (Ben) Mattson of Sugar City, KaReena (Brian) Smith of Osgood, sister Verla (Bob) Allen, and sister-in-law, Sally Sharp, 19 grandkids, and 9 great grandkids and one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Edith Sharp, his sweet daughter, Jalyn, brothers, Don, Ray, Gayle, and Lavar Sharp, and daughter-in-law Denni Dawn Sharp.

As his family we wanted to give a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Idaho Community Hospital, especially, Dr. Morton, Dr. Corsino, Janae, Sam, Lorin, Ryan, Allie, and Lindsay.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, at the St. Anthony Stake Center. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the stake center. Condolences can be sent online to the family at www.baxterfh.com
