Loretta (Lord) Newcomb

Loretta Newcomb (Lord) passed away on September 10, 2023 at Lincoln Court in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the age of 92 under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.

She was born July 28, 1931 in Shelley, Idaho, the third of five children born to Joseph D. and Ella Harper Lord. Loretta graduated from Shelley High School in 1949. She married the love of her life, Darrell L. Newcomb, on June 24, 1951 in Idaho Falls and they enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. She was a natural born caregiver and homemaker, a dedicated wife and mother, and also worked at Albertson’s bakery and Medical Plaza X-ray. For many years she bowled on multiple leagues and was the secretary of two of them. She was also active in the Friendship Pinochle Club and the VFW Auxiliary.

Loretta always had a smile and a story for anyone she talked to. She was an excellent cook who made sure that her family and friends were well fed with her home cooked holiday meals, cookies, and cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed time spent outdoors camping and fishing, playing scrabble, or in the company of a good book. She loved her family most of all and was overjoyed talking about and spending time with her great-grands.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband Darrell L. Newcomb, parents Joseph D. and Ella Harper Lord, sister Eva Marie Sears, and brother Ronald Henry Lord. She is survived by sons DeLayne L. Newcomb of Irwin, ID and Brian D. (Tami) Newcomb of Idaho Falls, ID, daughter Sheri L. (Paul) Hansen of Idaho Falls, ID, and granddaughters Misty (Cody) DuPont of Dundee, OR and Michelle Hansen of Star, ID along with great-grands Zoey and Brynlee DuPont and Everett Hansen, step-granddaughter Stormy Hope and great-grands Raelyn, Tailore, Liam, and Walker. She is also survived by brother Kenneth J. Lord of Caldwell, ID and sister Phyllis Miller of Rigby, ID.
