Idaho Falls woman started painting furniture for fun and now owns a shop with her business partner

Home decor, furniture and clothing store opens on the west side of Idaho Falls
IDAHO FALLS – Painting and restoring old furniture has been a fun pastime for Christy Monroy for the last year. It wasn’t until she met Belinda Jones, a longtime home decor shop owner, that she decided to open a business.
The duo are partners in a new venture on the west side of Idaho Falls called Timeless Trends & Decor. The small shop at 1735 West Broadway near the Liquor Store and Albertson’s provides secondhand antiques, home decor, furniture, clothing and accessories. Monroy’s husband, Victor — a disabled combat veteran — also contributes laser-engraved wooden cutting boards, spoons, decor, flags and other items.
The business had its soft opening Tuesday. Its grand opening is Saturday.
Monroy tells EastIdahoNews.com she’s gotten a lot of positive feedback about the opening of her business.
“A lot of people are really excited to have affordable prices for home decor. Not everything is new or handmade, so the prices aren’t really high. Having an affordable place to shop for the home on this side of town is very exciting for people,” Monroy says.

The 37-year-old woman moved to Idaho Falls with her husband from southern California in 2019 to be closer to family. She got into painting about 18 months ago during a particularly difficult time in her life.
Furniture is expensive, so she started looking for old items she could restore and paint with her daughter. She found it to be therapeutic and grew to love it.
In the beginning, she painted items she planned to keep, but things started to accumulate and she had to sell them.
“It just took off and became something I did full-time from home,” she says. “I did a lot of client work where people would drop off their furniture. I’d redo it, and they’d come pick it up.”
Then about six months ago, Victor started doing his wood projects alongside them in the garage. Though he recently completed a degree for a career in cybersecurity, he too, found it to be a therapeutic exercise. He created a website for his wood carvings, and it became a profitable side venture for him.
“It worked out great because now I can use some of his items for staging my furniture (in the store). I sell some of his flags in the shop,” says Monroy.
Victor served as a combat medic in Iraq and Afghanistan, and doing wood projects has proven helpful in coping with PTSD.
Christy says people in eastern Idaho are “so nice” and she’s grateful for how supportive everyone has been. She enjoys the weather and is looking forward to watching her business thrive.
Timeless Trends is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
