REXBURG — Madison Fire Department will be performing a live burn exercise on Oct. 31, fire department officials announced in a news release.

“For the past two weeks, Madison Fire Department has been doing multiple interior live-burn training exercises with all shifts,” officials stated.

The department’s structure fire class cadets have also been part of the exercises, which have been held in a donated house on the northwest corner of 2nd East and Moody Road, across from Walmart.

“(The interior exercises) will continue through the rest of this week, and the house will be fully burned on Tuesday, Oct. 31, during the final training session,” according to officials.

“Having the opportunity to practice our skills in an actual house is invaluable, and these opportunities don’t come along very often,” said Deputy Chief Troyce Miskin. “We’re grateful a structure was provided to our department which gives our personnel this opportunity.”

Because of the proximity to Walmart and surrounding businesses, drivers are encouraged to use caution when passing by the training area. However, no road closures are planned.
