IDAHO FALLS — Law enforcement recovered a man’s body from the Snake River near downtown Idaho Falls Sunday night.

Dylan T. Rummler, 31, of Idaho Falls, has been identified as the man by the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

Dispatch received a call at 7:30 p.m. reporting a man was seen in the Snake River near Memorial Drive and D Street. He was yelling for help before going under and not resurfacing, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Idaho Falls Fire Swift Water Rescue, Idaho Falls Police, and the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Dive Rescue Team all responded and began search efforts.

“Fire personnel located an area with fresh footprints from the riverbank across an ice shelf to the water that did not return to the bank,” the release said.

At 10:20 p.m., divers found Rummler’s body at the bottom of the river near where he was believed to have gone in. He died from drowning, law enforcement said.

The quick action by witnesses and emergency personnel in determining the location and circumstances contributed to the recovery.

“Deputies remind the public conditions on the Snake River can be very dangerous at any time along with extremely cold-water temperature that makes the window of self-rescue very short as hypothermia sets in,” the release said.
