David Lowe Shrader passed away peacefully July 31, 2024, with his family by his side, on his own mother’s birthday, after a courageous seven-week-long battle to recover from heart surgery.

David was born December 1, 1944, in Mare Island, California, to RuthAnn Rose Rhodes and Ernest Lowe Shrader. He grew up in California, Iowa, and Florida, and he graduated at the top of his class from Melbourne High School at the young age of 17. David continued his education at the University of Florida, where he attended both college and medical school, demonstrating a passion for learning and a dedication to the medical field. He completed his residency in Seattle, Washington, before embarking on a distinguished medical career.

In 1977, David and his good friend Tom Richtsmeier established a heart and lung practice in Idaho Falls, Idaho. His commitment to providing exceptional care was evident throughout his career. In 2007, David took on the role of Chief of Staff at Star Valley Medical Center in Afton, Wyoming. In 2013, he returned to Idaho Falls and even up to his surgery was continuing to care for patients at a clinic in Shelley, Idaho, through Bingham Memorial Hospital. David was renowned for his unwavering dedication and the outstanding care he provided to his patients.

Beyond his professional achievements, David had a zest for life and a multitude of interests. He loved mountaineering, riding motorcycles, fly-fishing, horseback riding, skiing, and cheering on the Florida Gators football team. In recent years, he found joy in woodworking, creating beautiful wooden treasures for his grandchildren and other loved ones. Most of all he loved his family.

David was preceded in death by his parents, RuthAnn Rhodes Sanders and Ernest Lowe

Shrader, as well as his brother, Daniel Shrader.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of nearly 38 years, Susie Shrader; children, Emily Elizabeth Eames, Evan Robert Eames (Tina Wang), and Rebekah Rose Shrader (Jeff Aaron Shearer), and Robert Daniel Shrader; and three cherished grandchildren, Elliott Lowe Shrader, Ari Lee Shearer, and Ignatius Blu Eames.

David Lowe Shrader will be remembered for his remarkable contributions to the medical field, his adventurous spirit, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
