Glenn Lorenzo Hansen
June 28th, 1925 - September 12th, 2024
Glenn Lorenzo Hansen, 99, of Shelley, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2024 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, in Idaho Falls, surrounded by his loved ones.
Glenn was born at home on June 28, 1925 in Burley, Idaho to Heber Lorenzo Hansen and Myrtle Simmons Hansen. Most of his childhood and early teens was spent on the family farm in Goshen, Idaho. His family moved to Filer, Idaho where he graduated from Filer High School in 1943. While in high school he participated in football, played the trumpet in the school band and sang in the choir. Shortly after graduation, with WWII in full swing, Glenn joined the Aviation Cadet Program where he served in the Army Air Corp from 1943-1945. On November 26, 1946, he married Marilyn Emma (Nielson) Hansen in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Glenn was taught from an early age the importance of hard work, responsibility and always finishing what he started. These attributes were seen throughout his life in all he did and this is his legacy to all his posterity.
Glenn worked for 41 years at the Naval Reactor Facility (NRF) west of Idaho Falls in the Arco, Idaho desert. This is where he learned to refuel reactors which provided power for military ships, submarines and aircraft carriers. He received several awards and accolades for his faithful service. To provide additional income for his growing family, he also worked as the meat cutter every Saturday at the local grocery store in Shelley, Idaho where he and Marilyn raised their family of 5 children.
Glenn enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, watching sports and doing crossword puzzles. He also loved to garden and every year he planted a large one. Whenever any of his family came to see him, they would chat while sampling the yummy vegetables he had to offer, making wonderful memories.
Glenn is survived by his 5 children; Carl L. (Judy) Hansen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Ronda K. (Reed) Longhurst of Iona, Idaho, Karilyn (Greg) Hill of St. George, Utah, Kevin G. (Carolyn) Hansen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Brian K. (Tanya) Hansen of N. Salt Lake, Utah,
