Ronald Brenchley

Ronald Glenn Brenchley was born December 6, 1935, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to Merrill Murray Brenchley and Agnes Ellen “Helen” Glenn. He lived in Green River, Wyoming with his family for 12 years where his father worked on the Union Pacific Railroad. The family then moved to Chester, Idaho for three years before settling in Parker, Idaho on a small dairy farm.

Ron graduated from South Fremont High School in 1953. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in February 1954. He was a S/Sgt working as a technician in Bomb Navigation on the B-36 and B-52 in the 92nd Bomb Wing (SAC) at Fairchild AFB near Spokane, Washington. Ron was honorably discharged in February 1958. He then faithfully served an LDS Church mission to the Gulf States Mission (Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi) from 1959-1961.

Education was of upmost importance to Ron. He attended Ricks College for two years, then transferred to BYU where he earned his B.S. in Agronomy. During his sophomore year, Ron met the love of his life, Alice Beth Johnson. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 30, 1962. They moved to Portland, Oregon where Ron would pursue his graduate studies at Oregon State University. While in Portland, they welcomed their daughter, Christina Marie, in 1967. After four years at OSU, Ron received his MS and PhD in Weed Science.

Ron accepted a position with Monsanto developing agricultural pesticides and herbicides. The first assignment took the family to Nebraska. where the family grew again with the arrival their son, Stephen Corbett in 1969. Ron served as Regional Manager over the central 1/3 of the United States. The family was moved from Nebraska to Denton, Texas, then to St. Louis, Missouri.

After leaving Monsanto, Ron served as Associate Professor of Weed Science for 2 years at the Idaho Experiment Station in Parma, Idaho. Ron then accepted a position with Bayer Agricultural Chemicals Division in 1981 that brought the family back to their home in Ashton, ID. He was developing new pesticides, mostly insecticides and fungicides in Idaho, Montana and Utah. Ron retired in 2002 and later served a mission for the church with Alice in the Senior LDS Mission in Los Mochis, Mexico.

Throughout his life, Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reloading ammunition for his gun collection. He loved and was adored by his grandchildren and always had adventures planned for their visits. He also enjoyed RZR ATV rides with friends, especially on the trails near their winter home in St. George, Utah from 2012-2022.

Ron is survived by Alice, his wonderful helpmate of 62 years, his two children and three grandchildren, Katherine, Kyson and Kyle. He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings and his best buddy, a Brittany Spaniel named Rex.

Ron passed away peacefully in his home in Ashton, Idaho on October 7, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at the 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the Ashton LDS 3rd Ward Building, 1313 N 3600 E, Ashton, Idaho. The family will receive friends and family Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the church. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion and US Air Force Honor Guard.
