Pocatello native and opera singer debuts at Carnegie Hall, now teaching at new music school

POCATELLO — Just a few months ago, Pocatello native Jordan Bowman was on stage at New York City’s Carnegie Hall, where she made her solo debut as an opera singer. Today, she is back in her hometown, giving singing lessons at Pocatello’s all-new music school, Kind Conservatory.
“Standing on the stage where so many legends have stood, and singing with a full chorus and orchestra was very exciting,” Bowman said of her June 16th Carnegie Hall debut.
Besides Carnegie Hall, Bowman has graced the stage from the Narnia Festival in Italy to Idaho State University’s Stephens Performing Arts Center and many places in between. She is represented by Randsman Artists Management in New York City and studies with the world-renowned soprano artist Andrea DelGudice.
Bowman comes from a highly musical family on both sides, with roots deep in Idaho. Her grandfather, Dan Bowman, was a beloved music teacher at Pocatello High School for many years. Her father, David Bowman, is a gifted pianist who currently plays keyboards in the popular local group Aaron Ball Band.
Bowman’s mother, Cherie Hoff, is a music teacher and jazz singer. Her grandparents on her mother’s side, John and Christy Hoff, of Weiser, Idaho, played numerous instruments, performing in country bands and the Idaho Heritage Symphony.
Bowman’s younger sister, Madelein (Bowman), is also an accomplished opera singer. The sisters, whose voices blend well, enjoy performing together.
Bowman attended Syringa Elementary School in Pocatello, William Thomas Middle School in American Falls and graduated from American Falls High School — performing in many musicals, theater productions and competitions along the way.
Bowman pursued her Bachelor of Arts at the College of Idaho and a Master’s in Music at Binghamton University in New York.
Bowman’s love for opera took a strong hold during her college years when she wrote, directed and performed her first opera called “Lullaby” for HomeGrown Theatre in Boise.
“There’s something so amazing about singing over an orchestra under hot lights in a heavy costume,” she said. “I love that all the art forms are smooshed together in one to create fabulous, expressive chaos.”
Following many accomplishments and performances as an opera singer, Bowman returned to Pocatello in 2019 to be close to family and start her own voice studio, Jordan Bowman Soprano. She also performs occasionally with the Aaron Ball Band.
“I’m passionate about Pocatello. I believe I’ve acquired enough skills to be a positive musical force in Idaho,” Bowman said.
“Outside of English, I sing in Italian, German, French, Spanish, Latin, Russian, Czech and Norwegian,” she added. “I teach the diction of the language as I assign repertoire to each student.”
When Bowman was invited by Pocatello businesswoman and renowned pianist Natalia Lauk to join forces with Kind Conservatory, she jumped at the opportunity.
“It’s so spectacular for someone like Natalia to put her passion into a place like this [Kind Conservatory],” said Bowman. “This is the place for anyone who has ever wanted to sing or play an instrument. A place where anyone of any age can feel brave enough to take lessons. A place for musicians to find support and love.”
Bowman looks forward to teaching at Kind Conservatory and helping Laux grow the business by acquiring a fleet of advanced music teachers for private and group lessons.
