The Sugar-Salem girls soccer team added to its trophy collection on Saturday, winning its second straight state title with a 4-0 win over Buhl.

It was a record-setting state tournament for the Diggers, who set records for goals scored in a 4A state match with nine and goals set in a tournament with 16.

The Diggers outscored opponents 16-0 in the tournament and finished the season 19-1, their lone loss coming 3-2 to 5A state champion Pocatello back on Sept. 10.

Andee Petterson scored two goals in the championship match and Allie Christensen and Isabel Falin each added a goal. Keeper Nika Nead recorded two saves.

In other action from the state tournament, sophomores Brinley Nelson and Quincy Daw each scored for Hillcrest as the Knights and Twin Falls tied 2-2 in the 5A consolation final. Twin Falls eventually won the game 6-5 on penalty kicks.

Marsh Valley claimed the 4A consolation trophy with a 2-0 win over Sun Valley as Isabelle Bastian and Sophia Harris each scored.

American Falls, which had to win a play-in game just to reach the state tournament, advanced to the 4A third-place game but fell 2-0 to Fruitland.

Other results included Mountain View beating Thunder Ridge 2-1 in the 6A consolation match and Moscow holding off Century 2-1 in the 5A consolation match.
