John Bennett wins race to become next Lemhi County Sheriff

SALMON — After a race against two independent opponents, Republican John Bennett was elected to become the new Lemhi County Sheriff.

Bennett beat out Curtis Cannon and write-in candidate Leah Madsen to become sheriff.

Bennett won the race with 52% of the votes, with Cannon trailing behind with 30% of the votes. Madsen came in third place, with 18% of the votes.

Bennett was not available to comment on his win Tuesday night. If we hear back, we will update you with his statement.

In other Lemhi County election news, Republican Chace Slavin won the race for county prosecutor against independent write-in candidate Chip Giles.

Slavin received 57% of the vote, while Giles received 42%.
