Coffee shop opens second location off I-15 with a business model of giving back to the community
Published at | Updated atPOCATELLO – After just two years in business, Glean Coffee Roasters has opened a second location right off I-15’s Pocatello Creek exit (formerly Beans & Brews Coffeehouse) at 1319 Bench Road.
Glean’s first location in Pocatello, inside Dude’s Public Market, 240 S. Main Street, has been a success and a great addition to Historic Downtown Pocatello.
Local co-owner Billy Chaddock said the new east side location will give more people access to Glean’s unique coffee experience and freshly made breakfast and lunch items.
“We enjoy and appreciate our customers and the community in old town. It’s more of a destination place where people can come and enjoy having coffee with friends or for ISU students to come and do their homework with our free Wi-Fi,” Chaddock said.
However, Chaddock believes the convenience of the new location will serve travelers, as well as busy parents, teachers, and students from nearby Highland High School and Grace Lutheran School.
“This (new location) is the first and easiest coffee shop travelers will find coming north off the interstate,” he said. “There’s indoor seating, a patio, plus a drive-thru window.”
Chaddock, who co-owns the business with his wife Amanda and local couple Jonathan and Emma Theander, said Glean will continue to give to local charities year-round as it has from the start.
“Giving back to the community is built into our business model, with a portion of our proceeds going directly to local non-profit organizations,” said Chaddock. “To date, we’ve donated up to $15,000.”
Some of the organizations Glean gives back to include the PTSD Veteran Athletes Foundation — an organization that provides outdoor sporting equipment and qualified training to veterans as treatment for PTSD; Idaho Foodbank, Compassion & Hope Pregnancy Center, Meals on Wheels and Aid For Friends Shelter.
Additionally, Glean takes pride in roasting ethically sourced and fair-traded coffee beans at their old town location and making all syrups in-house.
“We take coffee seriously. We started off roasting our own coffee beans at home and selling them at farmers’ markets. It’s a hobby that got out of control,” Chaddock joked.
Glean has become well known for its year-round signature drinks, such as the “Budding Spring” latte made with cardamon syrup, steamed milk with a spritz of orange blossom, and their popular lemon-vanilla latte.
Glean also offers hot chocolate and an array of loose-leaf teas from Lake Missoula Tea Company in flavors including huckleberry, strawberry and citrus.
Glean recently announced its seasonal holiday drinks: Pistachio Latte, Cookie Butter Latte, Mexi-Mocha, Peppermint Mocha, and Cranberry Mocha. Descriptions of the drinks are on Glean Coffee Roasters Facebook page.
Chaddock, a perennial entrepreneur and veteran of the United States Air Force, also recently opened The Martlet (brewery and taproom), formerly Star Route Brewery, in Historic Downtown Pocatello.
