Child killed in head-on collision between pickup and SUV in Idaho

BONNER COUNTY — A child was killed and three individuals transported to a hospital after a head-on collision between a truck and an SUV on U.S. Route 95 near Elmira in northern Idaho on Friday.

At approximately 8:35 a.m., a 61-year-old male from Moyie Springs, Idaho, was traveling southbound in a blue 2011 Dodge Ram pickup near milepost 490.

The driver of the Dodge Ram moved into the northbound lane and attempted to pass multiple southbound vehicles, colliding head-on with a black 2008 Ford Edge traveling northbound, in the northbound lane.

The Ford Edge was driven by a 33-year-old female from Otis Orchards, Washington.

The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup was the sole occupant and was transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance. The driver of the Ford Edge, her 33-year-old female passenger, from Deer Park, Washington, and a juvenile were also transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance.

There was a fourth passenger in the Ford Edge, a juvenile, that succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.

The highway was blocked intermittently for approximately three hours with alternating traffic.

Idaho State Police is investigating the two-vehicle fatality crash.
