CAREY — A local man was hospitalized after a severe crash in Carey on Sunday, Dec. 15.

The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash and vehicle fire on Main Street at around 3:30 p.m.

Crash scene investigation determined a 21-year-old male from Salmon was driving a 1995 green Toyota Camry northbound on Main Street with a 26-year-old male passenger at a high rate of speed, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

For unknown reasons, the Camry traveled onto the right shoulder and then off the roadway completely, impacting trees on a residential property.

The collision caused the vehicle to catch on fire. Both occupants were able to exit the car but sustained injuries that resulted in transportation by air ambulance for medical treatment.

The vehicle sustained substantial damage and was towed from the scene.
