Years after receiving a surprise gift, woman shows how a Secret Santa has changed her life
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — Rachel Williams woke up on Thanksgiving morning when she was 12 years old and could no longer walk. She was paralyzed from the waist down and diagnosed with a condition called Transverse Myelitis.
Rachel was nominated to receive a gift from Secret Santa in 2019. At the time, she was driving a 17-year-old truck and needed one that was adaptable for her wheelchair. The cost for the vehicle was $27,900 and friends, neighbors, coworkers, and students where Rachel tutored held numerous fundraisers to help her reach her goal.
Over $17,000 was raised when Secret Santa decided to help Rachel cover the rest of the funds. During a Thanksgiving assembly, the East Idaho News surprised Rachel with her present from Secret Santa.
Now, five years later, Rachel is giving an update on how the gift changed her life and showing how her truck works. Watch the video in the player above.
