John Richard Pauley was born on September 10, 1938, on the family ranch south of Miles City, Montana. He was the only son of John Verner and Eleanor Stilwell Pauley, and the younger brother of Katherine. John died December 16th, 2024, in Casa Grande, Arizona.

John attended high school at Custer County High School in Miles City, graduating in 1956. He was active in choir, drama, and FFA. He joined the Montana National Guard after high school and served for almost 10 years.

In April of 1959, John married Janice Meidinger in Kinsey, Montana. They had three children, Carolyn, Chuck, and Richard.

Not content with the ranching life, John was always looking for something different. He moved his family to Miles City and began working as a car salesman in the early 1960’s. While in Miles City he started a country western band called the Rhythm Rustlers with two friends, Bruce Ballantine and Bucky Conkright.

In 1966, his family then moved to Idaho. Many happy memories were made in small Idaho towns as John worked in retail sales, furniture stores, car dealerships, ranching, managing a pole yard, and working at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL).

John and Janice divorced in 1984. John later married Alyce Marcroft. He then moved to Arizona to enjoy warm weather and year-round golfing. He focused on a career in construction while in Arizona. After his retirement, John devoted many hours to playing music and golf.

John is survived by his wife, Alyce; daughter Carolyn (Kevin) Hansen, Chuck (Monica) Pauley, Richard (Rita) Pauley, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

At John’s request, he was cremated, and no services were held.
