Free clinic to help veterans draft a will and testament
Published atPOCATELLO – Local veterans will have the opportunity to sit down with an attorney to write a will and testament, free of charge.
On Thursday, Jan. 16, the Bannock County Veteran Services and the Idaho Military Legal Alliance will host a clinic to help local veterans write a will and testament. Veterans and their dependents are invited to attend and get free advice from an attorney.
“This is going to be a great opportunity for veterans,” said Melissa Hartman, the Bannock County Veteran Services Coordinator. “When they leave there, they will walk out with a signed, notarized document that they can turn in to the court.”
Hartman says putting together a will is difficult, so a free event like this goes a long way.
“It’s really intimidating, and it’s expensive, and we put it off because we think, ‘I don’t really need that,’” Hartman said. “Sometimes people are like, ‘I don’t really have anything. It doesn’t matter,’ but it does.”
For those who can’t attend the clinic on Jan. 16, Idaho Military Legal Alliance plans to host another clinic, as well as a full-day estate planning workshop this spring.
The will and testament clinic will be held at the Bannock County Veterans Memorial Building, 300 North Johnson Avenue in Pocatello.
Attendees must reserve a time for a one-on-one appointment with an attorney, and 17 spots are available. Call the Bannock County Veteran Services office at (208) 282-4245 to register and reserve an appointment.
