Man who allegedly abandoned newborn puppies in a dumpster is charged

POCATELLO — A man who allegedly abandoned seven newborn puppies in a dumpster has been identified and charged with multiple crimes.
Pocatello Police officers have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Tanner Pool of Pocatello.
On Jan. 4, the Pocatello Police Department responded to the Maverik at 855 East Alameda Road after an employee reported a box of newborn puppies abandoned in a dumpster.

Surveillance video showed a tan or beige GMC truck with a dent on the driver’s side back panel. The footage showed a man getting out of the truck, putting the box of puppies in a dumpster, and then driving south on Randolph Avenue.
Thanks to tips from the public, ordinance officers identified Pool Tuesday night. He is charged with seven misdemeanor counts of animal abandonment and eight misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. Seven of the animal cruelty charges are for the puppies and one charge is for the mother, who was Pool’s pet.
She is now reunited with her four surviving puppies.
“We should want to take care of our animals,” said Lt. Josh Hancock with the Pocatello Police Department. “That’s just humanity.”
