Idaho Falls man identified by coroner’s office in double fatality crash
Published at | Updated atCAREY — Two people who died in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 26/93 on Tuesday have been identified.
According to the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office, Derek Michael Harmon, 55, of Idaho Falls, died. He was initially transported by ground ambulance from the scene to meet with Magic Valley paramedics but passed away en route.
The Blaine County Coroner’s Office said Kerrie Schneider, 62, of Kuna, also died in the crash.

The incident happened Tuesday after 3 p.m. The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, along with Idaho State Police, responded to the two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 26/93, east of Fishcreek Reservoir Road in Carey.
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation determined Harmon was driving southbound on the highway in a silver 2014 Chevrolet Silverado.
For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center line into the northbound traffic and collided head-on with a blue 2021 Toyota 4Runner, driven by Schneider, who had a 38-year-old passenger, a news release said.
Both of the drivers died due to injuries sustained in the crash. The female passenger was taken to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello by air ambulance with serious injuries. She has not been identified.
Everyone was wearing seatbelts, deputies said.
