MERIDIAN (Idaho Statesman) — Last May, an 18-year-old Meridian student was supposed to receive his Owyhee High School diploma. Instead, he sat in a Las Vegas jail, facing charges in the fatal stabbing of a 60-year-old woman.

Newly obtained reports from the Clark County Coroner’s Office confirm that Lincoln Boe then died in jail months ago.

On the morning of April 29, police officers found a woman dead with multiple stab wounds in a dumpster enclosure in the 9000 block of West Sahara Avenue, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said at the time.

Police said they found video evidence putting Boe at the scene of the crime, tracked him down and found the suspected murder weapon under a seat in his car.

After charging Boe with the Nevada crime of open murder with a deadly weapon, law enforcement booked him into the Clark County Detention Center.

Boe, who was scheduled to go to trial this April, was held at the detention center until his recent death. He died in custody Oct. 28, the Clark coroner’s office confirmed to the Idaho Statesman in an email. The coroner listed his manner of death as suicide.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department would not answer any questions from the Statesman about Boe’s death, saying it was part of an ongoing investigation.

Police: Idahoan admitted to killing victim

Police officers found 60-year-old Gina Broome dead with a dozen stab wounds in the 9000 block of West Sahara Avenue, in the Summerlin area of western Las Vegas, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

Broome was last seen alive on surveillance video pushing a cart in the area at 3:02 p.m. April 27, according to the arrest report.

An hour later, Boe was seen on camera parking a vehicle with Idaho license plates behind the business at that address and throwing items into the dumpster, before he entered the business and asked whether the cameras out back worked, according to the arrest report.

An employee then took Boe into the alley and pointed out the cameras.

Boe was next seen on camera standing in the same spot where the victim was killed, according to police.

When police looked up the Idaho license plate number, they found that Boe’s family had filed a missing person report for him. They located the car May 2, with Boe sleeping in it.

Police took Boe into custody and questioned him about the woman’s death. His shoes were an “exact match” to a bloody footprint found at the scene of the crime, the arrest report said.

Police said that at first, Boe denied killing Broome and repeatedly responded to questioning by saying he “didn’t remember.”

Boe then eventually said he gave Broome money to buy cigarettes, but she became angry when he asked her for one, according to police. Boe said she was “tweaking out” and clawed at him, even though he told her to “back off” several times, police said.

Police pointed out in the interview that Broome weighed 110 pounds and had a broken foot. Boe was 6-foot-3 and weighed about 170 pounds, according to arrest documents.

The arrest report said that Boe later admitted he stabbed the woman with a large knife he was wearing around his waist, and then hid her body. He said he threw the knife in the dumpster.

However, officers later found the weapon under a seat in Boe’s car, according to the report.
