Obituary
Brenda Rhoades
August 11th, 1951 - September 2nd, 2024
Brenda K. Rhoades, 73, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, at her home in Salmon, Idaho, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 11, 1951, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Brenda was the cherished daughter of Kenneth and Geraldine (Jerry) Strom.
Growing up in the close-knit community of New Sweden, Brenda’s roots were deeply planted in Idaho Falls. She attended local schools, graduating from Skyline High School Class of 1969. That same year, on August 1, she married her high school sweetheart, David Ray Rhoades, and together they built a beautiful life, raising five children: Caryn, Curtis, Kevin, Katie, and Candice.
Brenda was a woman of unparalleled kindness and warmth. Her smile could light up a room, and her heart was always open to anyone in need. Known for her friendly nature, she couldn’t go anywhere without stopping to say hello to a friend or acquaintance she encountered. Her ability to connect with others was truly a gift.
Brenda’s passions were many and varied. She found joy in crafting and painting, the great outdoors, and sharing her life with the many beloved dogs that were her faithful companions over the years. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Brenda faced life’s challenges with remarkable strength and resilience. In 2015, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, a challenge she met with the same optimism and positivity that defined her character. Despite the diagnosis, she continued to embrace life, creating cherished memories with her loved ones at their ranch in Salmon, Idaho.
Brenda was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. Her warmth, love, and strength will be deeply missed but will forever remain in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved her.
Brenda is survived by her devoted husband, David Rhoades, of Salmon, ID; her children Curtis (Jennifer) Rhoades of West Jordan, UT, Kevin (Becky) Rhoades of Idaho Falls, ID, Katie (James) Adkerson of Russellville, AR, and Candice (Shawn) McDaniel of Idaho Falls, ID; as well as 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Geraldine (Jerry) Strom, brother Bradley Strom, and beloved daughter Caryn Rae Meyer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s research or a charity of your choice in Brenda’s honor. Her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will meet with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
