Carol Jo Mooney Harker passed away peacefully at EIRMC on July 2, 2024, at the age of 83, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

She was born February 21, 1941, in Idaho Falls, ID to Albert Sylvester Mooney and Marion (Isenburg) Mooney. She attended Eastside Elementary, Central Junior High and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1959.

She married Richard Lee “Dick” Harker, her high school sweetheart, on November 24, 1960. Together they raised four children Kathy, Mike, David, and Lisa.

She lived in Idaho Falls her entire life. She worked at Sweetbriar’s Dress Shop, the Social Security Administration, harvested potatoes at the Thiel family farm and as a seamstress for many friends and family. She took special joy creating wedding dresses for her daughters, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and close friends, often designing the dresses from scratch using multiple pictures, patterns and brides’ visions.

She was active in her local PEO group, bridge club, stitchery club, walking group and many community activities. She enjoyed spending time at her cabin with her beloved dog Millie, traveling with family and friends, and attending all the grandkids’ school and sporting events. She hosted countless pre-game dinners for her grandkid’s teams. She rarely missed a game or big family event and was usually in the middle of the party.

She will be greatly missed by her sister, Jill Foltz of Piscatawy, New Jersey, her children, Kathleen (Thomas) Gwinn of Pocatello, David (Molly) Harker and Lisa (Scott) Miller, both of Idaho Falls, daughter-in-law, Karen (Mike) Harker of Ridgecrest California, 15 beautiful grandchildren and 9 adorable great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Harker and son Michael Harker.

Carol Jo will long be remembered as a loving, caring, joyful, gentle and supportive soul. All who knew her would agree she had a contagious spirit toward life. She always had a smile to share. Eventually memories will bring smiles, but for now, the void in our hearts feels forever empty.

The family would like to thank the Island Park EMS, Fremont County Sheriff’s Department, West Yellowstone Air Idaho Rescue, and the ER and ICU teams at EIRMC for their professionalism and care provided to our mom.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 in Idaho Falls, ID. Further details will be posted on www.BuckMurphy.com closer to the service date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to provide scholarships for young women through: PEO Chapter BI Treasurer, 4011 Cambria Drive, Idaho Falls, ID 83404.
