On November 25, 2024, DeLon Harold Landon, of Rigby, passed peacefully at the age of 89, surrounded by his children and family.

DeLon was born June 19, 1935, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the oldest of nine children born to Harold James Landon and Zelma Cunningham Landon. During his early years, the family lived in Salmon, Osgood, and finally settled just outside of Rigby. As the oldest, DeLon learned the importance of hard work at an early age. He graduated from Rigby High School in 1953.

DeLon enlisted in the Army Engineering School in May 1955. His time in the Service gave him the chance to travel to Germany, Switzerland, and France. He always talked about how beautiful that part of the world was and dreamed of going back to visit.

On March 25, 1960, DeLon married Sonia Field in the Idaho Falls Temple. He loved to buy her flowers, cards, and presents their whole marriage.

DeLon and Sonia lived in Ammon, Idaho, for 18 years where they welcomed 6 of their 7 children and developed lifelong friendships. In the late 1970’s, they moved the family to Rigby, Idaho. A short time later, they welcomed baby number 7 (their “moving bonus”).

The property in Rigby gave DeLon ample opportunities to play in nature. He loved to work outside planting trees, growing a garden, trying to cultivate fruit trees and bushes, and tending to rabbits and chickens. He loved spending time in the yard and his outbuildings.

DeLon always enjoyed tinkering with and fixing just about anything. He worked as a mechanic his whole life and retired from his career as a heavy duty mechanic at H-K Contractors in 2001.

DeLon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent years serving in the scouting program, was dedicated to his home teaching families, and loved his time serving in bishoprics and stake presidencies. He and Sonia served at BYUI and in the Idaho Falls Temple in their later years.

After retirement, DeLon and Sonia chose to spend their winters in Quartzite, Arizona. The friends, activities, and mild weather made them happy.

DeLon is survived by his wife, Sonia Landon of Rigby, ID; his six children, Mike (Brenda) Landon of Rexburg, ID, Janette (Darren) Aitken of Panama, Kip (InSook) Landon of Peoria, AZ, Danette (Rick) Nelson of Edmonton, CA, Jenifer (Shane) Jorgensen of Ririe, ID, and Kara (Jordan) Higham of Shelley, ID; 19 grandchildren and 10 great granchildren.

DeLon was preceded in death by a daughter, JoLyn Landon; two grandsons, Jake and Dakota Aitken; his parents; and 4 of his 8 siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024, at Stillwater Ward, 198 N 4300 E, Rigby, ID, with Bishop Cody Anderson officiating. The family will visit with friends and loved ones Monday from 12-12:45 p.m. prior at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.

The family wishes to thank the nurses from Solace Hospice and express special thanks to Dr. Bryan Hammar for their loving support and care.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
