Douglas Ralston Poole, 83, of Rigby, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024, at home with his loving wife of 60 years. He was born August 19, 1941 in Menan, Idaho, to John Ralston Poole and Ellen Billman Poole Cooper. He graduated from Rigby High School in 1959 and went on to further his education earning a Master’s of Mathematics from University of Oregon in 1972.

He met his wife, Barbara Aldene Kearsley, at Ricks College and they were married August 14, 1964 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a two-year mission in the Eastern States Mission from 1960-1962. He also held many positions in the church including Scout Master, ward and Stake Young Men’s President, high counselor, and Bishop of the Garfield 3rd Ward.

Doug had a love for Scouting and received his Silver Beaver Award. He enjoyed family history, being a handyman, four-wheeling, and camping with his family. He taught math, computer science and served as School District 91 Computer Coordinator in Idaho Falls, Idaho. After retiring, he and Aldene served a Family History Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (2006-2008). After returning home, they served as directors of the BYU-Idaho Family History Center in Rexburg, Idaho for 8½ years.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Aldene Poole of Rigby, Idaho, two daughters Wendy (Van) Heder of Rexburg, Idaho, Nancy (Justin) Morris of Taylor, Utah, four sons Travis (Lisa) Poole of Bluffdale, Utah, Jason (Nicole) Poole of Farmington, Utah, Lance (Rachel) Poole of Rigby, Idaho and Bryce (Verena) Poole of Rigby, Idaho, a sister Hellen Kaye (Ron) Merrill of Menan, Idaho, 31 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Van Heder and a sister, Sharon McClellan.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024, 10:00 AM in the Rigby Idaho Garfield Stake Center (formerly known as the Rigby South Stake Center), 106 N 3800 W, Rigby, Idaho. The family will visit with friends Friday, November 15, 2024 from 6:00-7:30 PM and Saturday before the funeral 9:00-9:45 AM at the same building as the funeral. Burial will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, 3810 East Menan Lorenzo Hwy Rigby, Idaho.
