Eric Sean Broughton, 52, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away on June 30, 2024, at his home in Phoenix, Arizona. He was living with his son, Alex.

Eric was born on December 1, 1971, in Fort Collins, Colorado, to James Michael Broughton and Evelyn “Rusty” McCain Broughton. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls where he graduated from Skyline High School in 1990.

During his school years, Eric was known for his involvement in wrestling and football. He had a lifelong group of friends including Ryan Charboneau, Johnny Aguinaga, David Wilford, and Chris Howell, with whom he shared many memorable experiences on and off the field.

In 1996, Eric welcomed his son, Alexander David Burton, into the world. Eric was a loving father to Alex and cherished their time together. He often said how proud he was of his son and the man he has become.

Eric had a variety of hobbies and interests. He was a gifted pool player, amazing cook, and had passion for scientific discovery and knowledge. He often spent his free time cooking an amazing meal, playing pool, or searching for knowledge.

Eric is survived by his son, Alex Burton of Phoenix, AZ; his father, Jim Broughton of Idaho Falls, ID; his brother, Steve (Ann) Broughton of Idaho Falls, ID; his sister, Kirsten Broughton of Pocatello, ID; and his sister, Mary (Lonnie) Leonelli of Dewey-Humboldt, AZ. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rusty Broughton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1-1:45 a.m. prior to services, both visitations at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
