Fred Olsen

James Fred Olsen, 87, of Ammon, passed away June 5, 2024, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Fred was born March 17, 1937, in Shelley, Idaho, to Weldon Olsen and Ruby Elizabeth Christensen Olsen. He grew up and attended schools in Shelley and graduated from Shelley High School. He also attended Idaho State University.

On July 17, 1959, he married Carol Ann Brown in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1964. Fred and Carol made their home in Ammon, Idaho, where Fred worked at Bateman Construction and later as a heavy equipment operator at the Idaho National Laboratory. After his retirement, he worked at Idaho Steel.

Fred was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed golf, basketball, softball, eating with friends and family, Razer riding, and RV-ing.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Diane (Bruce) Ricks of Sugar City, ID; son, James Olsen of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Bradley (Ann) Olsen of Atlanta, GA; brother, Mark (Verna) Olsen of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Linda (Lynn) Bradshaw of Shelley, ID; sister, Judy (Adrian) Sparks of Shelley, ID; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Annette Olsen; brothers, Gaylen Olsen, Gordan Olsen, and Preston Olsen; son-in-law, Lorin Sauer; brother-in-law, Pete DuPue; and great grandson, Tyler Hinckley.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
