Gordon Hugh Williams, 81, passed away July 17, 2024, at Madison Memorial Hospital from natural causes.

He was born on May 25, 1943, to his parents Gomer and Dorothy Howard Williams. He attended school in St. Anthony, Idaho and graduated from El Capitan High School in Merced, California. He joined the U.S. Army immediately after graduation and served for three years as a Short Wave Radio Operator in Italy and Korea.

After returning home he departed on a Mission to Bolivia and Peru for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Following an honorable return, he attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho where he met his bride-to-be, Cheryl Brown. They courted for twelve months, then were married on August 7, 1968, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Gordon graduated from Ricks College with honors, then moved with his young bride to Logan, Utah where he attended Utah State University.

Gordon loved to see new places and refused to put off growing a family at the same time. Shortly after he finished school in Logan, he and Cheryl moved to California for a short time, then returned home to Rexburg where they survived the great Teton Dam flood of 1976. After the flood they moved to Chester where they completed their family.

Gordon and Cheryl served multiple missions for the church. First, they served at the Mormon Handcart Historical site in Martin’s Cove, Wyoming. Next, they were Service Missionaries in the Idaho Falls, Idaho mission. Lastly, they served at the BYU-I Disability office. Gordon happily served in countless church callings, including five years as the Bishop of the Chester Ward.

He loved woodworking, painting, building furniture, and gardening (just like his dad). Through it all he loved watching his kids and grandkids play sports and never missed a sporting event, whether live or on T.V.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl Williams from Chester; son Bryce (Shauna) Williams from Burton, daughter Laura (Allen) Singleton from Chester, daughter Tamara (Brandon) Kolditz from Mesa, Az, son Bradley Williams from Chester, daughter Candace (Beau) Peterson from Salem, Utah; sister Marva Bowman from Rexburg, and brother Mark Williams from Wilford; fifteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, and a brother.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, at the Ashton Stake Center. The family will receive friends and family Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Interment will be in the Wilford Cemetery with Military Honors.
