Obituary
Jay Dean Fuhriman
April 11th, 1942 - November 30th, 2024
Jay Dean Fuhriman, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Idaho Falls after an extended stay at Life Care Center.
Jay was born on April 11, 1942, in Nampa, Idaho, and was adopted by Owen and Elinor Fuhriman shortly after birth. Jay grew up in the Melba area and attended Melba High School, graduating in 1961. He served a service mission in Chicago, helping to build the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapels in that area.
He was married to Beverly Stecklein and had twins, Michael and Michele. Jay and Beverly were later divorced. On December 10, 1970, Jay married Linda Camphouse in Rexburg, Idaho. They lived the first few years of their marriage in Melba where they had two children, Christa and JayO.
In 1976 they moved to Idaho Falls for employment and have lived there for nearly 50 years. One more son, Josh, joined the family in Idaho Falls. Most of Jay’s employment was working as a laborer at the INL through the labor union. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed working with the Scouts.
Jay never met a stranger. Everyone was a friend, and he always had a joke, (appropriate or not). For many years, Jay was active in the car circuit, attended many car shows, and received several awards with his “second love” that bright red, 1949, Chevy Coup. He was handy with wood and gained some notoriety with his famous “Candy Box”.
Jay loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting when he was younger. The highlight of the summer was always the grandchildren’s campout, where no parents were allowed.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Fuhriman, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughter, Christa (Sam) McKee, of Inkom, Idaho; son, Jay O Fuhriman, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Joshua Fuhriman, of Pocatello, Idaho; brother, Dee (Yoriko) Fuhriman, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and five grandchildren: Shawn (Tatiana) McKee, McKayla McKee, Skye Clay, Olivia Wynn, and Stella Fuhriman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Elinor Fuhriman; his sister, Eileen Fuhriman; and his son, Michael Fuhriman.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Freeman Park LDS Ward, 3370 N. 5th W., Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Ammon Cemetery. Services are under the care of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.
