Job “J.C.” Steel

Job Coleman “J.C.” Steel, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully at his home, September 20, 2024.

J.C. was born July 31, 1932, in Egin, Idaho, to Moroni Job Steel and Beulah Ursula Coleman Steel. He grew up and attended schools in Plano, Idaho; Egin, Idaho; and Sugar City, Idaho. He graduated from Sugar City High School. He also attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Following his high school graduation, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War.

On March 24, 1960, he was married and sealed to his sweetheart, Ruth Mickelsen, in the Idaho Falls temple. J.C. and Ruth made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where they raised their family and he worked as a farmer.

J.C. loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time farming, hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. He also crafted many beautiful knives for family and friends over the years. He enjoyed watching movies and always made a large bowl of air-popped popcorn to go with it. J.C. loved his family and was known to say, “There isn’t an ugly one in the bunch!”

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held a variety of callings where he served faithfully. Some of those include: Scout Master, Bishop, High Counselor, and a member of the Stake Presidency. J.C. also served two missions to Sweden, once as a young man and once with his sweetheart, Ruth. He spoke the Swedish language very well, and enjoyed reading his Swedish Bible.

J.C. is survived by his wife, Ruth Steel of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter Jerilyn (Todd) Hatch of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Kathy (Jeff) McGary of Taylor, UT; son Kevin (Jill) Steel of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Julene (Creg) Shaffer of Gardnerville, NV; son Doug (Kassie) Steel of Idaho Falls, ID; son Alan (Becky) Steel of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Lori Steel of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Lane (Robyn) Steel of Menan, ID; brother, Paul (Shirley) Steel of Plano, ID; sister, Sana Rae (Kent) Davenport, Las Vegas, NV; 31 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Moroni and Beulah Steel, sister LaThel (Paul) Wurst, and brother, Coleman (Laretta) Steel.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Old Butte Ward, 1345 Clarence Drive, Idaho Falls, Idaho, with Bishop Matt Campbell officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Both visitations will be at the church. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
