John Watson Hazen II passed away peacefully at his home on November 26, 2024, surrounded by his beloved wife, his children, their spouses, and his cherished dog, Gretta. He was 76 years old.

Born on September 11, 1948, in Houston, Texas, John was the son of entrepreneurs John “Jack” Hazen and Sara Bashara. A man of remarkable drive and charisma, John built a life defined by family, ambition, and relationships.

John attended the University of Oregon, where he met his first love, RenĂ©e LaMontagne. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their three daughters in Eugene, Oregon, before relocating the family to Glenwood Springs, Colorado. John and the family created a family band, “The Hazen Persuasions”, and they traveled Colorado and Wyoming performing together, laughing together and sharing positive messages through music. John deeply loved his daughters, cheering them on, mentoring them and teaching them about business.

John’s career began in Oregon, where he owned a restaurant supply company and a successful chain of pizza parlors. After moving to Colorado, John began a new career as a real estate agent in a small town, but his relentless determination and passion for making deals transformed him into a highly sought-after, multi-state hotel broker. Known for his boundless energy and drive, John often traveled across several states in a single day, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike. His success was not just measured in business achievements but in the enduring relationships he cultivated and the lives he touched along the way.

In later years, John was proud to welcome his son, John Robinson Hazen, into his life. The two shared countless adventures on the road together, with John teaching his son to drive and rocking out to great music.

In 2008, John married Lucinda Franson, with whom he shared deep love and companionship. He warmly embraced Lucinda’s family, and her sons became an integral part of his life.

John is survived by his wife, Lucinda Hazen; his daughters, Amy Hazen Larsen (Lance), Jody Kena Hazen Holland (John), and Kacy Hazen Spangler (David); his son, John Robinson Hazen; his sister Rosemary Adkins (Doug); his stepchildren, Patrick (Amanda), Ryan (Shannon), and Steven Stroschein (Whitney); 19 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Herbert Hazen, and his sweet grandson, Dakota James Holt.

A service to honor John’s life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at 1925 E 49th Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83404. Interment will follow at the Ammon Cemetery.

John Watson Hazen II will be remembered for his tenacity, passion, chocolate chip cookies, and larger-than-life presence. His legacy of love, determination, and unwavering commitment to family and friends will continue to inspire all who knew him.
