Joseph William “Joe” Wood, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 8, 2024, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community.

Joe was born February 1, 1948, in Livingston, Montana, to Gene Edward Wood and Cecilia Katherine (Ihly) Wood. At age 3, Joe began his education at the Roby Allen School for Deaf Children located in Faribault, Minnesota. Here Joe learned to read lips, write, and many other skills that served him his entire life. After high school graduation, he moved to Idaho Falls where he made his home. After a job in the pole yards, Joe moved on to the Department of Energy where he worked as a microfilm data processor at the Idaho Falls site.

Joe was a lifelong member of the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge. He and his dad enjoyed golfing at Pinecrest Golf Course and mingling with friends at the 19th hole. Trains, both full size and models, were a passion of Joes. Playing cards and especially cribbage were favorite pastimes that Joe enjoyed! Never has there been a bigger Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan!

Joe is survived by his brother, Robert (Deborah) Wood of Bismarck, ND; nephew, Christopher Wood of Boise, ID; niece, Elizabeth (Brian) of Bismarck, ND; and great nephews, Logan Barrett of Bismarck, ND and Zachary and Benjamin Wood of Boise, ID.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Rae Wood; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and acquaintances.

Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge, 640 East Elva. Please join us for a Celebration of Joe’s Life immediately following the service. Joe would be happy to have you wear your favorite sport team colors or jerseys. The family will visit with friends Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
