Joyce Marilyn Jensen Stanger, 88, lifelong resident of Idaho Falls, passed away June 15, 2024, at Mountain View Hospital following a brief and intense battle with pneumonia.

She was born October 17, 1935, in Independence, Idaho, the second child of Earl Howard Jensen and Bernice Marie Hanson Jensen. She attended schools in Ucon and the surrounding area, and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1953. Joyce furthered her education at Ricks College, where she pursued studies in accounting and finance.

On December 17, 1954, Joyce married Norman Ross Stanger in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They raised their five children in the Taylor area, south of Idaho Falls.

Joyce was a mother and homemaker and also worked at Fashion Fabrics, the Bon Marché, and Seiferts. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in numerous callings throughout her life.

As a dedicated rancher’s wife, Joyce supported Norman through the challenges of raising cattle and farming. The Stanger ranch held a special place in her heart. Joyce was incredibly creative and resourceful, traits that she had learned from her own mother. She sewed clothes for her family, as well as grew a garden and canned and froze fruits and vegetables. These were not just hobbies, but a way of life for her. Joyce crafted exquisite dried flower arrangements and beautiful quilts and needle point projects. Joyce was passionate about quilting. Her handcrafted blankets and runners were frequently showcased at fairs. In addition to her quilting, Joyce possessed an exceptional talent for cooking and baking. Her family, friends, and neighbors were blessed by the generosity of her culinary skills, and never left her home feeling hungry. Her homemade bread, in particular, is legendary.

Joyce will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to family, and her enduring kindness to all who knew her. Her legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.

Joyce is survived by her children: Jed (Lora) Stanger, Bradley (Barb) Stanger, Scott (Rasheil) Stanger, and Jennifer Stanger, all of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Carolyn Nielsen Cook-Burr of Idaho Falls, ID; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Bernice Jensen; sister, Phyllis Ricks; brother, Richard Jensen; her beloved husband, Norman Stanger; and her son, Brian Stanger, who died just two short weeks ago.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Panorama Hills LDS Ward, 7555 North 55th East (Ririe Hwy & Iona Road). The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
